5 Easy Enrollment Fixes to Tackle This Summer
Just because school’s out doesn’t mean summer is slow. Between wrapping up registration, prepping for the fall, and managing the hundred tiny tasks that didn’t get done during the school year, it’s easy for the “nice-to-do” enrollment tasks to get pushed off…again. And again. And again.
But enrollment still matters, and some of those easy-to-ignore items can actually have a big impact on whether families show up on the first day.
That’s why we’ve pulled together five quick fixes that take less than an hour to complete but can make a major difference in your enrollment numbers this fall. They’re light-lift, high-impact, and easy to knock out before your next meeting (or iced coffee) melts.
1. Set Up SMS Nudges to Keep Families on Track
Families are juggling summer travel, work, childcare — and for many, school paperwork isn’t top of mind. Email reminders help, but text messages are more likely to get seen and acted on.
With a few minutes of setup, you can:
- Send auto-reminders for incomplete registrations
- Let families know if documents are missing
- Remind them of important deadlines
If you’re using SchoolMint Enroll, you already have this capability built in! Just set your triggers, choose your message templates, and let SchoolMint Enroll’s powerful automation do the rest.
Bonus: The SchoolMint Enroll 2.7 release introduced oft-requested functionality whereby families must select a reason for declining their offer.
2. Add a Schedule a Tour Button to Your Homepage
Here’s a quick test: go to your school’s homepage. Can you schedule a tour in one click?
If the answer is no, you’re losing prospective families. Your website should have a visible, easy-to-find (preferably in the top right corner) button that enables them to schedule a school tour, no phone call required. This is especially valuable in summer, when families new to the area are exploring school options.
Use free tools like Calendly to manage sign-ups and send auto-confirmations. Just paste the link behind a “Book a Tour” button, and you’re done. Be sure to add that same link to your school’s Google Business Profile, your social media bios, and your email signature.

3. Rewrite the Email Families Get After Applying
The first message families receive after applying is one of your most powerful enrollment tools. Use this email to:
- Confirm you received their application
- Outline next steps (interviews, documents, deadlines)
- Share a feel-good message
- Offer a link to schedule a tour (or something else; what you want to do is give them some other action they can take, whether it’s a tour or upcoming open house)
Keep the tone warm, welcoming, and helpful. Make it feel like the beginning of a relationship, not a transaction.
Not sure what to say? Start with something like, “We’re so excited you applied to [School Name]! Your child’s application is officially in, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. Here’s what comes next.”
4. Add a Printed QR Code to Your Front Office
This one’s about capturing in-person traffic. Create a simple flyer with a QR code that links to your application, tour calendar, or interest form, and post it on your front door or office window.
Now when families visit your school after hours or during summer downtime, they can take the next step instantly without needing to speak to someone on staff.
Tip: Use a free QR code generator and Canva to design your sign. Print extras for local libraries, rec centers, or coffee shops.
5. Update Your Tour Photos
When was the last time you updated your school tour photos? If it’s been a while (and especially if things around campus look quite different now), take 10 minutes to upload some fresh images.
What families want to see:
- Smiling students
- Engaged classrooms
- Clean, vibrant spaces
- Welcoming entry areas
Additionally, if you’re a school district with a school search portal like SchoolFinder, update your profile with the same photos so families see consistent branding wherever they find you. And pin a short video tour to the top of your Facebook page to give them an instant peek inside your campus that makes them want to schedule a visit!
