5 Cool Things Schools Can Do in Canva

When I worked in student recruitment, if you had asked me what my favorite tool was, I’d have said Canva. Now, if you HAVEN’T heard of Canva, think of it as the world’s easiest graphic design and marketing software.

If you HAVE heard of Canva, you’re probably thinking I just undersold it. That’s how useful and easy it is. Whether you’re a school marketer, classroom teacher, or principal, Canva is a MUST have for schools.

While the free version of Canva is great on its own, the premium version is absolutely worth every single penny. So what can you do with Canva in schools? I’m glad you asked!

Below, I’ll share with you five cool things you can do in Canva and then show you where you can get even more ready-made templates from us at SchoolMint.

1. Create Templates for School Flyers and Brochures

Whether you need a call-out flyer for your sports team or a flyer advertising enrollment at your school, Canva has a template for you.

All you need to do is swap out the placeholder text with your information, change up the colors, and you’re good to go!

Want to see some of my favorite templates? I’ve got you covered.

2. Create Customized Social Media Graphics

Social media is a crucial platform for school marketing. With Canva, you can design branded graphics tailored to each social media platform.

Whether it’s Instagram stories, Facebook posts, or Twitter banners, Canva’s customizable templates ensure your content stands out and maintains consistency with your school’s brand.

Even better? You can hook up your school’s social media to Canva directly and post from Canva to Facebook or Instagram — no swapping apps needed!

3. Develop Interactive Newsletters

Say goodbye to boring newsletters! Canva has a ton of great newsletter templates that are SO easy to use. Newsletters are a great way to share the exciting things happening in your school in a casual, authentic way.

Not a designer? Not a problem! Canva has some great templates to get you started!

4. Produce Promotional Videos

In marketing, video content has a really high engagement rate, meaning that people watch it and click it more frequently than text- or image-based content.

Canva’s easy-to-use video maker and simple templates let you create promotional videos for your school to highlight anything — including enrollment, student activities, or upcoming events. These videos can be shared on your website, social media, and more.

5. Craft Custom Event Invitations and Posters

Whether it’s a school play, a fundraising event, or an open house, Canva can help you create beautiful invitations, tickets, and posters. The drag-and-drop interface makes it easy to design professional-looking materials that will grab attention and increase participation in school events.

You can even use Canva’s printing service to get them printed and mailed right to you!

Not sure where to start? We’ve rounded up a few templates to get you started:

6. “Meet the Teacher” Posters

As a parent, I love seeing the “Meet the Teacher” signs outside my daughter’s classroom. But as a school marketer, I know how much time and effort goes into creating them.

Not anymore!

Canva has great templates you can personalize to your school’s branding and either fill out for teachers OR send a template link to your teachers and have them fill it out themselves.

7. Worksheets and Classroom Templates

My mom is a kindergarten teacher and LOVES using Canva to create fun writing activities for her students.

Whether it’s creating a personalized journal, a handwriting activity, or a craft template, Canva has a LOT of premade and customizable templates teachers can use in a variety of ways to make their lives just a little easier!

8. Better Presentations

Canva isn’t just for static content. You can create interactive presentations for parents’ evenings, staff meetings, and more.

With Canva’s range of templates and the ability to add dynamic elements — like videos and hyperlinks — your presentations will be more engaging than ever.

Here are some examples:

Using Canva for your school’s marketing efforts not only saves time and resources but also ensures your communications are polished and professional.

It’s a tool that empowers you to be creative but not at the expense of your precious time and energy!
